  • Product description
  • Working Principle

The working principle of lightning protection insulators is mainly based on their special structure and materials. A low potential is formed at the right end of the insulator, creating an air gap between the high and low voltage electrodes at both ends of the insulator. This air gap is primarily used to provide a channel for lightning strikes and arc discharge. When lightning strikes the line, this air gap will flash over before the insulator body, guiding the lightning current through a specific channel into the ground, thus avoiding damage to the insulator and the conductor.

    Types and Structure

There are various types of lightning protection insulators, such as the FXG8 series of suspension insulators. These insulators are usually made of insulating materials (such as ceramics, glass, or composite materials) and are equipped with special structures like arc rods or lightning rods. The arc rod can provide multiple burn-off of power frequency arcs, ensuring reliable performance and effectively preventing damage to the insulator from lightning strikes and accidents of conductor breakage due to lightning.

    Application and Installation

Lightning protection insulators are widely used in high-voltage transmission lines, substations, and switchgear in power systems. During installation, it is necessary to select the appropriate lightning protection insulator based on actual needs and installation methods, and to follow the specified steps for installation. Attention should be paid to details such as the tension on both sides of the conductor, the direction of the arc fork in relation to the grounding pole, and the tightening torque of the bolts.
